This distortion pedal is the ultimate distortion pedal for noise. DOD no longer manufacturers this pedal probably because it was way out of control distortion for most guitar players. Think Grunge pedal on "11." Both black paint and red paint versions were made.

I have the black ink version of the Corrosion (don't know if that makes any difference) but it's a great pedal; a really harsh sounding, OTT, metallic, rusty noise is the best way to describe it. Flexible too; you'd be missing a trick to just run this one flat out all the time as there are some interesting in-between stages. Useful EQ.
Good Points: Unique sound, flexible, brutal, useful.
Bad Points: Rare, so can be expensive. Sound has quite a distinct digital/metallic edge to it which may not be to everyone's taste.

I have one of the original ones in the original box. I had never heard of these before and saw it years ago on Daddy's Junky Music back when they still sold mail order. I knew it had to be rare so I bought it and bought a second for my brother. I also own a BFP version too, I hear that there was a short run of those with the name FX70MF instead of FX70P for Musician's Friend. I love the sound for hard rhythm guitar, it has been called a "noise pedal" but personally I think it has very usable sounds, just turn down the gain.
Good Points: Rare and sounds good.
Bad Points: The box was just really cheap and I think it was one of the first peds made in China.

I love this thing. I just bought my second one of these. I bought the first, kept it about a year and a half, then traded up to a Zvex Fuzz Factory. "But why not own both?" I asked myself, and bought a second.
Good Points: I ALL Good Points with the FX70C but I do have one question (see below):
Bad Points: Anyone know if/how the light bulb gets replaced? Seems mine is burnt out. Can anyone out there can help me?

It took me a long time to find one of these things, and it certainly seems to be the hardest to find pedal i've come across. But the wait is worth it. I was really excited to get this and test it out. With a contact mic running into it you can get some really great sounds. The usual highs and lows apply here but something about this pedal makes them different. Just harsher and more brutal. All that fun stuff. I use this to start my chain now, it replaced my Metal Muff as my main distortion. If you follow this up with an octave pedal your going to have a fun time, I guarantee it. The possibilities with the corrosion really make it a great purchase. If you can find one of these suckers, buy it. It's worth it. I even bought one that isn't in perfect working condition or even that good looking but as long as it works, it's fantastic.
Good Points: -Well built like every DOD -Versatile beyond any other distortion
Bad Points: -RARE RARE RARE, harder to find than a DOD buzz Box

Apparently very close to the Metal X & Big Pig Fat (BPF) distortion (they share the same model number, FX70, though this is qualified "C" and the BPF Distortion is qualified "P"), I haven't heard the BPF distortion, but this is a bit more harsh the Metal X, doesn't seem to have as much gain though, it's a little bit quieter, but not enough to make a great deal of difference
Good Points: Probably one of the harshest timbres of all DOD pedals.
Bad Points: A tad less gain than the Metal X.

here we have the case of a pedal appropiately named. this thing is deffinately a noise pedal. this thing gets loud. past eleven loud. not as bassy as i would have liked. it seems to be slightly louder than its cousin, the metal x. it doesnt get lost in the feedback loop, in fact it mangles pretty much everything else. it has wonderful metallic quality to it. with a mic/contact mic it gets just as blistering. highly recomended...
Good Points: solid construction loud metallic distortion good for alot of applications
Bad Points: stupid names for the controls not made anymore

as far as straight up distortion pedals go this thing is pretty wild. awesome super rusty sounds and will feedback like a beast if used with an actual bass or guitar. when the battery starts to die I find mine likes to start oscillating by itself a bit making some weird high end sounds
Good Points: gnar distortion, DOD tough ass build
Bad Points: stupid power supply, can cause alot of unwanted hum when you want a bit crisper of a sound

I LOVED this pedal when I still had it (got rid of it before I discovered noise!!). I had the black ink version. Loads of gnarly sounds and I got a new one pretty cheap at the time. Lots of tone capabilities with an underlying harshness you don't hear much nowadays.
Good Points: solid DOD construction, loved the sheet metal casing (very 'industrial'-feeling), gnarly distortion
Bad Points: I wish I had another one (sniff sniff)

I have the original red-label one from when DOD used to be cool. "Corrosion" very accurately describes the sound of this monster: abrasive and rusty (one of the parameters is called "rust"!). This loud one can create piercing buzzing feedback and fuzz squalls, but the responsive two-knob eq section will allow dark low-end rumbling also. The gain is kinda crispy and sufficient but not as copious as an Ibanez Smash Box... the knob seems to be fairly uniform from one o'clock on. This pedal really shines when paired with an equally belligerent other.
Good Points: sheet metal construction (you could really chuck this at a nu-metal kid); four knobs for more control; the very industrial sound; volume; powerful two-band eq; easy access to battery compartment
Bad Points: takes a 10-volt dc negative ground adapter (must be rare since I've never heard of this type)

This is about the fx70C "metal X" that others have mentioned is the same pedal. A very loud, very harsh distortion pedal ("corrosion" is a much more approriate name than the "metal X"). The loudest distortion pedal I own, and definately the one with the most high end bite. (more so than say a dod thrashmaster, grunge or death metal to my ears. not to mention dozens of other "overdrives" and whatnot). The only pedal I have that I almost always used with the tone rolled back. Good for adding high end bite back to detuned delay loops, and a good fit with a dod meatbox in a loop.
Good Points: very loud, very harsh, tone knobs actually useful
Bad Points: sometimes too much high end, can make feedback loops sqeal if not tempered with meatbox or whatnot, at least the "corrosion" models are becoming somewhat collectable

I have the black label version. This pedal is superb, super LOUD signal, with just the pedal and an instrument hooked up to it, the amp on the clean channel was set to ZERO and i can still hear the signal. This pedal is HOT. Great for noise, yields so many great sounds, pump anything through it and its bound to be eaten up by this pedal. A MUST.
Good Points: Loud, Harsh, Abrasive, i can go on...
Bad Points: The Corrosion versions are going to too much on ebay and elsewhere, I say shop around, you can find one for -35 range.

Those wacky folks from Utah deliver the goods again! I just recently got the red label version from Sonic Flux, and it has already usurped the Death Metal pedal as my primary distortion / sound source. This will create searing walls of feedback with no effort at all. The distortion is brittle and rather machine like. All of which begs the question, what on earth would a guitar guy want with this? Plenty loud enough for noise appications. The "bottom" and "top" knobs are extremely useful in shaping the tone of the feedback it produces as they are very responsive. Aparently, this thing has been reissued under a string of names (Metal X, Big Pig, Extreme Distortion GFX70...) so tracking one down on the cheap shouldn't be a problem. This is pretty much essential for noise. Do what you've got to do to get one.
Good Points: Lots of gain. Great to use as a sound source. Knobs are very responsive. Feedback, feedback, feedback. Available under many names, some of them cheaply.
Bad Points: If you want the "original" Corrosion pedal, you've got to pay a premium.

I got a Metal X (same as a Corrosion -- both are FX70C's) a couple weeks ago. I liked it so much, I just bought a Corrosion off eBay. This is the most useful distortion for harsh noise that I've ever tried. This is very loud -- so loud that if I want no signal boost, I have to set the level at around 10 or 11 o'clock. Has a slight metallic tone to it that's nice. Lots of range on tone.

What I have is the FX70 Metal X, but I have it on good authority it's the same pedal. The main thing that defines this pedal is that it's loud, I mean LOUD. Perfect high gain distortion for noise, good tone section, emphasizes higher frequencies very well and capable of low rumbling also. I've heard the distortion section described as sounding very "digital", but it's a nice contrast to pedals like the Grunge or Death Metal and probably blows them out of the water when it comes to sheer volume. Limited run, but you can still find 'em cheap.
Good Points: Very LOUD, good tone section, unique distortion.
Bad Points: None so far.

The Corrosion pedal is capable of bowel churning lows, crispy crunchy mids, and paint pealing highs... This pedal is the Grunge pedal on "11," a must have for all harsh noise artists.
