Guyatone Tape Echo RTE-3000

Guyatone Tape Echo RTE-3000

The RTE-3000 Guyatone Tape Echo is the real deal - an actual magnetic tape echo like the legendary units from the past. The RTE-3000 offers all the warmth and clarity of tone as those vintage tape echo units, with the addition of several modern features that add to it's reliability and ease of use. Unlike any other current production or vintage Tape Echo, the RTE-3000 features a proprietary motor-shut off circuit: At zero input signal the unit's motor shuts down, preserving tape life and motor life dramatically. In fact, it's only necessary to replace the RTE-3000's tape loop once every five years, which means less time in the shop and more time on the stage or in the studio! If you want models, go to a hobby shop. If you absolutely must have the real thing, then there's only one solution - the Guyatone RTE-3000! The RTE-3000 features: · Vintage-style VU input meter · Dual Inputs w/multiple pad settings for use with a variety of input signals · Stereo outputs · 70-800 mS delay time (6 switchable delay-type settings) · Multiple tape heads for irregular, multi-tap delay effects (double & triple Ping-Pong delays) · High-quality adjustable Ampex brand tape-loop · Input Volume, Echo Volume, Delay Time, Delay Repeat, and Output Volume controls · Echo Tone switch for darker "vintage" tone or brighter modern tone · Footswitchable "on/off" · Direct bypass switch for "echo only" output · 3 year limited warranty

  • I got a sick deal on this from a middle aged rockabilly guitarist. Boy did I ever luck out. This thing is pure heaven. The only other tape echo I've used is an Echoplex, which also has an incredible sound, however, vintage tape echoes in general are known for being extremely unreliable. This thing on the other hand is like a miracle of modern science. Open up the top and watch the tape start rolling as you start to play, then stop as when the signal stops. You'll be amazed. Supposedly this will extend the tape life to about 3 years, not bad. The tape was just changed on mine so I should be good to go for 6 years. Anyway, if you are interested in a tape echo, I highly recommend this. God bless the Japanese.
  • Good Points: As your loop repeats, the highs get rolled off and the sound degrades in the most beautiful way (you could spend days just listening to this). Also, repeats can go on literally forever. You can connect a footswitch to turn the echo on/off. There is an "echo only" output as well as stereo outs. It has an indicator to show if your signal is too loud. 5 different echo modes. It sounds better than any bucket-brigade analog delay ever will and it is more reliable than any old-school tape echo could ever hope to be. Oh yeah, solid construction too.
  • Bad Points: If you absolutely must have that characteristic vintage sound, this may not be what you're looking for. Otherwise nothing. It is flawless.
