Guyatone The Fuzz TZ-2

Guyatone The Fuzz TZ-2

The TZ-2 Fuzz may appear simple at first glance, but once you plug it in you'll discover it's multiple uses. A retro-style fuzz effect based on the vintage Univox Superfuzz, the concept behind the TZ-2 was to create distortion using methods other than waveform clipping. Unlike standard distortion and fuzz pedals, the TZ-2 produces a sawtooth waveform that yields a much ruder and cruder tone with a whopping low-end. So where do we get off calling the TZ-2 a multi-effect? Well, its circuit contains a diode ring. Diode rings are used to add upper octave tones to an input signal (think Dan Armstrong Green Ringer or Tychobrahe Octavia). The TZ-2's upper octave tracks particularly well and is smoother and more subtle than most "boutique" octavia clones currently on the market. In addition, the TZ-2 will produce atonal, clangorous tones similar to a ring modulator, making it great for special effects and more unconventional applications. The TZ-2 Fuzz: Distortion, Octavia, and Ring Modulator - Three great analog effects in one pint-sized powerhouse!

  • I absolutely love this box. It took me awhile to find some applications where it was more than just a fuzz, but when I did this became a favorite among my collection. Awesome harmonic qualities come out of this. Excellent paired with the right overdrives and EQ's going through it.
  • Good Points: Takes some getting used to, but shines when you figure it out.
  • Bad Points: None.

  • The fuzz tone ranges from subtle to nasty. It can get an octave up effect similar to a Foxx Tone Machine, but not as in your face. With the depth control cranked you get harsh fuzz sound. It would be nice to have a tone control to fine tune the sound.
  • Good Points: Price. Range of useable fuzz sounds.
  • Bad Points: No tone control. Rubber ring holding the unit together will eventually wear out.

  • i wanted a fuzz pedal and i though that the fuzz was a good buy for 30 dollars. It's a very nice fuzz pedal and it can hit the lows and highs very well. I use it to make things dirtier and make some pitches come out more.
  • Good Points: it's very loud and the lowend is ver powerful.
  • Bad Points: none really.
