  • Quite an odd one - high output, trashy sort of sound. Doesn't sound like much else so useful in that sense. Very good at livening up a murky chain or for squealing contact mic stuff, the presence control is expressive and useful. Much rougher sounding that the Super American Metal but with less gain.
  • Good Points: Cheap, different, plays well with others.
  • Bad Points: Nothing to speak of... maybe not high enough gain for some people.
  • Price Paid: US$15.00

  • An old DOD reliable!!! I fucking hate the name though WHERE'S THE CANADIAN METAL YOU FUCKS!!!! This is a severe distortion, it totally destroys anything running into it. I really like this one because it doesn't have the Death metal or Grunge pedal mud sound to it, it is actually reasonably clean sounding by comparison. The AM can get dirty if you turn the presence way down but most of the time it churns out a lower mid to high range blast of mind eroding hatred!!! I got this for fifteen bucks off Ebay so I'd say i got a wicked deal!!! I see a lot of the other reviewers saying they don't like the on/off switch. In my experience with DOD pedals, they seem to last forever as long as you don't beat the shit out of them. Hell of a wicked distortion and can be had for the price of a Pack of Canadian smokes!!!
  • Good Points: Crushing distortion Dod quality built to last Cheap on Ebay Readily available
  • Bad Points: Color kind of sucks The name!!!! The 1/8 inch old style dod power adaptor

  • Nasty scratchy tones; makes guitars sound like hell, and it rapes the signals other pedals in a feedback loop. Mine's kind of janky, whcih actually adds to the grittiness of the sound. Get this one secondhand.
  • Good Points: Loud, noisy, scratchy, powerful, great range...not a one-trcik pony.
  • Bad Points: Poorly constructed...I have to be careful during shows because mine runs through an AC adaptor and will turn off at the slightest bump. True bypass is kind of weird on this one, it only works half the time.

  • i collect distortion pedals like some people collect comics,cards,coins...this particular pedal was my second distortion, but from the get go it was outclassed by my first(sovtek green big muff). Today there just is no place for it in any of my chains, not because it's horrible, it really is a decent distortion, it's just i also have a 56-b a super american metal, and considering i paid about the same for them, if i had the choice again i'd leave this one alone and just go with the super american metal! dod just makes so many good distortions that this one just doesn't add up like the others! for the price you pay for them, if you need an extra distortion, go for it, if you need a primary distortion, go with the death metal for about more, or spend a decent amount for a big muff or a rat
  • Good Points: nice harsh metal distortion, throw it it an effects loop tweek the presence knob it does the job nicely!
  • Bad Points: other than your usual dod problems none

  • i just finished playing with this one. my roomate gave it to me a couple of days ago. it wails nicely. i love the sound it makes, and i wish my bedroom were bigger so that the sound could do more than bounce off the walls. nice pedal. great distortion, although i find myself fiddling with the volume. it's overwhelmingly loud. this could be good or bad, depending where you play.
  • Good Points: great wailing high sound, awesome dark low sound. beautiful distortion.
  • Bad Points: i'm always worried i'll break the actual pedal part of it. it seems flimsy.

  • I got this because I was going through something of an effects frenzy. What I didn't expect was to be beaten within an inch of my life by the sound coming from this tiny thing. Beneath the sturdy purple casing and rubbish switch lurks a metallic(and I can't stress that enough)beast. Through a good valve amp it can outbeef a Turbo Rat, although it does tend to convert anything away from your root note into a blast. Thus subtlety is not the issue here;the American Metal is good for cold, evil drum sounds, and its sweep(not unlike that of a Rat filter)covers a good range, from freezing scree to speaking threatening thud. Oh, and this thing packs a LOT of bass.
  • Good Points: Wall of sound, skull caving volume, batteries last forever
  • Bad Points: cracker-like switch, rubbish name
  • Price Paid: US$15.00
