Guyatone Wah Rocker WR-2

Guyatone Wah Rocker WR-2

Nicknamed the "Duck Box" for its unmistakable mid-range quack, the Wah Rocker is the most uniquely voiced envelope filter since the classic Mutron III. Variable Threshold (determines strength of effect) and Decay (determines the speed of the effect) controls allow the user to create a wide variety of auto-wah effects. High Threshold settings yield synth-like filter sweeps while lower ones produce throaty tones reminiscent of a half-cocked wah pedal.

  • This is a mind-blowing envelope filter. It acheives some of the nastiest, most metallic tones possible. It's great first in the chain, right after a microphone. You can make it suck a lot of high end out and get a round low end as well, but if you move anything it's back to blasting high end. I disagree with the earlier reviewer that it's like the dod envelope filter. The DOD envelope filter can be subtle, when this thing is on, you ALWAYS know it. And that's kind of it's trap. Not a lot of people have these I don't think, but you will eventually get sick of the sound because it will become very obvious to you what it is, while the DOD envelope filter has a use in almost every set up.
  • Good Points: amazing envelope filter
  • Bad Points: too "samey"
  • Price Paid: US$65.00

  • Harsh envelope filter, similar to the DOD FX25 envelope filter, but cleaner and easier to control. I've achieved some wonderful sounds with a contact mic and in a feedback loop. With controls maxed, this thing can get shrieking highs, and can get nice and low too. I love this thing.
  • Good Points: Simple construction. Great envelope filtering, in an agressive, noise-friendly way. DOD FX25 fans take note.
  • Bad Points: None yet.
