Ibanez Super Chorus CS5

Ibanez Super Chorus CS5

Ibanez has long been recognized as having one of the best choruses and the Super Chorus is no exception. The CS5 provides very clean chorusing with a very rich, bottom frequency. A full range of sounds from lush chorus to warm vintage sounds. Turning the speed knob all the way up will also provide a nice vibrato effect.

  • This was the second pedal I added to my arsenal back when I was learning to play guitar ... so I knew nothing about trimpots, as the other reviewers did ... :(
  • Good Points: Even at max speed and width, the input signal doesn't loose definition and can sound nice'n'warbly. The preset fx mix level is decent and it reacts well to pre distortion. Also works reasonably well on vocals.
  • Bad Points: The switch in mine gave out after a couple years. There is no mix control. I only recall being able to get three usable sounds.

  • Nothing remarkable here. The rate for the chorus is very slow which doesn't help in terms of a unit useful for noise. Trimpots do help it slightly but like the previous user said, it really doesn't do much.
  • Good Points: Cheap. Just plain dirt cheap.
  • Bad Points: Plastic body, goofy plastic knobs

  • Generally non-impressive generic chorus pedal. Lame and non descript even for a chorus pedal. It's only redeeming quality is it's cheap. Opening it up reveals a couple of trimpots, one of which seems to increase the max delay time. With that tweaked all the way you can occasionally get an intriquing sound, but nothing you couldnt get with a run of the mill modulating delay. Attempts to circuitbend it didnt find anything interesting. It's a soundtank, so it's all plastic and super cheap components. Output level seems low.
  • Good Points: cheap.
  • Bad Points: low quality case and components. Boring chorus sound. bland bland bland.
