Johnson Distortion EQ DEQ2

Johnson Distortion EQ DEQ2

The Johnson DEQ-2 "Distortion EQ" pedal has controls for distortion amount and master volume (for getting the right amount of fuzz), as well a 3-band parametric equalizer. This allows for a very wide range of tonal possibilities. Futhermore, it's housed in a rugged metal casing, to withstand years of stomping. The controls are neatly recessed below the top of the pedal. A single LED indicator light acts as both a power indicator, and a battery level indicator. Runs on a single 9v battery (included), or a 9v AC power adapter (not included).

  • Called a Watson DEQ2 in Britain. Good distortion and EQ in one box, with a nifty sweepable mid-range (200hz - 5khz). Nice range of sounds from this unit. Maybe separate distortion and eq is better but I haven't got them so... Personally it completely f'ed up my limited fx loop (in a good way), would (did!) make a good starter pedal. Got some lovely 'cows being slaughtered in a tunnel' sounds from it. Haven't got MT-2 or any of the other rated pedals so can't compare.
  • Good Points: Lots of variety. Cheap. Sweepable mid-range. Sturdy metal construction.
  • Bad Points: None for a neophyte like me.

  • This was great, I was looking for a distortion pedal. But also in the back of my mind I needed an eq also. So I hit 2 birds with one stone!!!
  • Good Points: BUILT LIKE A TANK. This reminds me of a old boss pedal, that I cant put a name on (I forgot). Its got great sound and everything you need. CHEAP!
  • Bad Points: Some things I would be better off with 2 seperate pedals.
  • Price Paid: US$25.00

  • This is a nice distortion pedal to add some meat to your sound, with a 3-band EQ and sweepable midrange freq knob. I've found that using it earlier in the chain yields better results as it isn't as powerful as some of the other tools at hand, but lend more support shaping the sound than obliterating it.
  • Good Points: cheap, decent sound, well worth it for the coin.
  • Bad Points: mine has a tight input jack (in that it needs a reaming).. aside from that, no problems..
