  • I bought this effect as my first in second-hand three years ago. I was quite satisfied w/ the sound but as soon as I bought another one (Guyatone Metal Monster MM-1), Ultra Metal stand no chance. You can never get the sound you want from this effect. When used alone, the sound is crappy. On the other hand, it can be used as backing effect taking care of additional distortion and equalization.
  • Good Points: quite good backing effect price (in my case)
  • Bad Points: you will never get the sound you want out of this effect, it just doesnt have the proper juice
  • Price Paid: US$32.00

  • Pretty nice. Managed to get one off ebay for a fairly good price. On its own it seems a bit lacking in true growl and power but combined with a good bass overdrive it makes a really big, loud and generally nasty racket! The tone controls are perhaps a bit limited but still push the sounds in distinctive directions. Not a bad distortion so long as you have something bassy backing it up.
  • Good Points: Good boost in volume adds a good mid/hi range fuzz over the top of other distortion light and responsive foot switch
  • Bad Points: Not great as a single distortion slightly flimsy feeling build mum?
  • Price Paid: US$0.00

  • Got this pedal from radio shack in the 80's when I was 13 - extreme distortion, way beyond tolerance of mortal hearing. Very Metal
  • Good Points: The most extreme distortion I have ever heard.
  • Bad Points: Too much Metal?
  • Price Paid: US$39.00
