Moog Music Ring Modulator MF-102

Moog Music Ring Modulator MF-102

The all-analog ring modulator rebuilds your sound into two separate tones and then uses an internal carrier oscillator to spread those tones apart in the frequency spectrum. The higher the carrier frequency, the more the new tones are separated. The effects can be anything from slow, velvet-smooth tremelo, to chains jangling in a Chinese gong to classic "outer space" sounds. The LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) imparts trills, vibratos, siren effects. You want unlimited new sounds? Here they are! Power supply is included: order 110v for use in US or Canada or 220v for use in Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia.

  • The Moog Ring Mod did not disappoint me. You can achieve a wide variety of sounds, from rhythmic trem to freaked out spacey synth sounds. This sounds great in a loop, but works just as well in my effects chain (after my loop). The back panel provides a lot of in/out expression/cv options. This is the pedal that keeps on giving--you won't run out of sonic possibilities anytime soon.
  • Good Points: Versatile, many controllable parameters, great for knob tweakers/synth space sound fans.
  • Bad Points: Large, inverse power, as stated by others

  • AWESOME. awesome awesome awesome. i got this thing and it literally opened up all kinds of doors. i noticed the first review says you can damage the pedal if it's turned up too loud. NOT TRUE. i don't know where he got that idea. i've had this thing for almost 3 years, and run it extremely hot all the time and it is still just as functional as when it was new.
  • Good Points: EVERYTHING
  • Bad Points: inverse power supply. seriously? why, Moog?

  • This is a beast. Yet beautiful. I love it. It is warm sounding yet can get harsh if you need it to. Very beautiful bell sounds can be made. I have used this on my casio drum sounds, it really can do some awesome stuff. Just crack it open and look at the board. Pure perfection.
  • Good Points: Big knobs, lots of jacks, pretty lights. It is so nice to live in asheville. I can hop over to moog anytime I want. Oh I miss the days of seeing Bob drive by my apartment. Miss him.
  • Bad Points: Everone hates the wall wart, but I use a 9 volt battery patched to the power jack.

  • Gorgeous ring mod sound, as expected. Extreme settings are available, which is always fun. The things that set this pedal apart is the ability to assign a control pedal to any major knob on the front, the ability to assign external control voltage to any of those things, and the ability to take a line level signal or a control voltage signal and use that in place of the LFO.
  • Good Points: Carrier in! Expression pedal jacks! Beautiful construction!
  • Bad Points: Huge! Clunky! Inverse power supply!

  • This pedal has a nice selection of waveforms (sine and square)and frequencies. The square wave can make some really sweet alarm-type noises if used in the proper rate, ann the sine wave gives a loopy floating feel. You can control the mix of the original sounds versus the the output with the LFO which is a nice feature so you're not just hearing the MF-102. In combination with th CP-251 Control Processor you can create endless blips at painful frequencies. It's really nice, but at times it can be hard to hear and if you turn the gain up too much you can run the risk of damaging the pedal.
  • Good Points: It's analog tones, great waveform and control.
  • Bad Points: The gain is too sensitive and risk of damaging pedal if it's cranked too high.
