Boss Noise Suppressor NS-2

Boss Noise Suppressor NS-2

The Boss Noise Suppressor NS-2 effectively eliminates noise and hum of the input signal while preserving the original input sound. The natural attack and envelope are unaffected thanks to Boss's unique noise detection circuit that precisely separates the incoming sound and the noise components. When connected to an AC adapter, the NS-2 can supply power to 7 other Boss effects units via the PCS20A power connection cable (sold seperately).

  • It is a good pedal. even on max it doesnt cut my tone at all that i can tell... the gate only works really well when you run it through the effects loop it has. I can turn on a danelectro black coffe, a boss ds1 and the gain channel on my amp and not get any hum or fuzz at all! mute feature is useful. and the adjustable mute rate helps with palm muting...
  • Good Points: cuts noise not tone
  • Bad Points: have to rig you effects chain

  • This is an excellent killswitch but the gate isn't that good. Save your money on this one.
  • Good Points: Excellent killswitch.
  • Bad Points: Crappy gate, only briefly works.

  • Despite being a noise "suppressor" this thing is pretty handy when it comes to noise. Throw a pedal or two into the send-return and then plug use the input-output inside of a rupture loop with something harsh behind it. There is a slight learning curve to it, but use it right and you'll get something very threshing and staticish. The mute switch works great if you want to trigger sudden bursts of sound.
  • Good Points: Built boss tough.
  • Bad Points: Hard to find a good use, but worth it. Expensive if new.
  • Price Paid: US$60.00

  • Why in the world would you want to SUPRESS your noise? I didn't purachse this for the intention of making noise, but it can be useful in effects chains. Easy feedback loops are created with the NS-2 (just use the send and return and you're good to go...) Mute function is useful. Turn it on and off and see what you get. Will also get rid of any undesirable buzzes and hums with one fell stomp.
  • Good Points: Easy Feedback Loop Mute Function Adds Subtle Dynamics To Your Noise The Send/Returns
  • Bad Points: Not exactly what most noisicians are looking for...

  • I have two. All I can really do is back up the statements of the previous reviews. It helps add dynamics and punch to whatever is plugged into it.
  • Good Points: Boss construction. Decay knob.
  • Bad Points: not really
  • Price Paid: US$40.00

  • useful for controlling feedback loops lets you add dynamism to feedback loops
  • Good Points: mute function very handy don't use the power supply feature, but i can see how this would be useful
  • Bad Points: accidentally killing all of your sound can be unpleasant

  • You may think, "why on earth would any noisician want a noise suppressor? That's counter-productive!" This may be so in general, but I like playing with dynamics, not just "full-on" onslaught all the time. Punch some hum or piercing shards in/out at a stab of the pedal. Unlike other noise suppressors whose only control is for threshold, this one also has decay, which is cool for variations or a "gray area" between the all on or off states. The extra "mute" mode is a useful brick wall-type gate for punching the entire signal in/out, not just noise which falls below the threshold point. Nice for pedal loop, too. AND! It powers several other devices, making this box a great swiss-army-knife. I've noticed an odd anomaly with my eq: with eq in return/send loop, suppressor engages and highs are totally sapped. So, I place the eq after the output jack (not in loop) and it sounds fine! Otherwise, the NS-2 doesn't affect my tone at all. Superb.
  • Good Points: decay, extra "mute" mode, familiar awesome Boss construction and reliability, works in loop, nice graphics and paint job
  • Bad Points: ??

  • I use my NS-2 as a powersupply and noise suppressor between my distortion pedals and modulation effects pedals. It does a really good job at keeping the fuzzy noise out of the quiet parts when you're not running anything through the pedals.. and i like the swelling and fading controls on the NS-2 to allow an abrupt or gradual decay of sound.
  • Good Points: it works great for its price and its an extra bonus over the normal power pedal by boss. it not only suppresses noise but can pwer 7 pedals, and it also powers an SP-202 or other 9volt Boss samplers, pedals or pedals like boss.
  • Bad Points: none really... i like it. wish i had two.

  • I picked up one of these a few years back after borrowing my brother's to use in a simple mic, distortion, delay, rack processor set-up, and it did quite an impressive job of cutting all all the hum and buzz. Based on that experience I thought I might be able to use it to cut out the buzz in my more complex studio rig - no such luck there, even placed at varying points in the chain, probably just too many pedals, connections, and power supplies to make much of a dent. The one thing I get the most use from is the power output jack which allows you to power up to seven other Boss style pedals. Anyway, as for the controls, there's threshold which you can adjust to cut the signal after it falls below a certain level, decay controls how quickly the signal fades before the effect is applied, so you can either get a natural decay or a blunt, gated effect. There's also a switch for "reduction/mute", normal operation in "reduction" mode, "mute" is pretty self-explanitory - no signal when pedal on, unaffected signal when off (reduction bypassed). Also has an effects loop which I've never used.
  • Good Points: Allows powering of seven Boss styled pedals w/ power output jack, effective noise reduction w/ simple pedal chains
  • Bad Points: Little to no noticeable reduction in complex set-ups w/ multiple connections
  • Price Paid: US$75.00
