Boss Super Feedbacker & Distortion DF-2

Boss Super Feedbacker & Distortion DF-2

A really cool stomp box for noise with knobs for Level, Tone, Dist(Distortion). The best feature is it's ability to generate feedback when the footswitch is depressed and held. This kicks in the "Superfeedbacker", and the tone of the feedback is set with the Overtone knob. The name of this pedal was changed by Boss from "Super Distortion & Feedbacker" when a lawsuit was brought against them by DiMarzio, Inc. for using the name "Super Distortion" which is a registered trademark for a guitar pickup.

  • I don´t have this one anymore, but it´s very good to remember it, because of the good times I had. I had a HM-2 Heavy Metal and traded it for this one. The HM was too crunchy for the style I was playing, so the DF-2 wore as good as a glove. I had a Les Paul guitar with a pair of humbuckers so it sounded great. It was very easy to use, except a little bit for the feedback feature, which I used for intros. It was cool by that time, but nowadays I don´t miss it. My Turbo Distortion has a more useful function, the 2-mode drive. : )

  • Good Points: Sound quality, feedback feature, easy to use, sturdy.
  • Bad Points: Hard to find and overpriced. Other than that it´s THUMBS UP. : )

  • We all know this pedal has bad distortion but i found more use for this pedal when i found out the DIST knob can be dialed completely out, leaving room for a real distortion pedal. The tone knob sucks too, Level all the way up because as the distortion is dialed out the volume comes up..just a bit..maybe a better setting on the Tone to fix that..

Anywho yes it feedbacks, kinda like a one trick pony but with and other pedals the trick gets better!!!! I like to run a pitch shifter right after this...throw that overtone up an octave or two :) think of what a micro synth or octave generator could do if this came before it...
  • Good Points: FEEDBACK, DIST can be completely dialed out,
  • Bad Points: weak tone, volume drop when on (even when dist is at min), distortion sucks (but you knew that already)

  • This pedal comes with a fair amount of hype. It's safe to say that if Boris names an album after a pedal, I'll probably buy it.

When I and other reviewers say this pedal is not worth buying for it's distortion, we mean it! There is nothing at all special about the distortion here. You most likely own more than one pedal that does this middle of the road kind of distortion far better. It has decent high end and almost no low end.

Now the real reason we're all here is for the feedback function. It generates a tone to simulate feedback for the note you hit as you step on the pedal. You can hold indefinitely. This has a ton of uses. E -bow style passages, heavy drone, shoegaze. Now sure, lots of delay pedals and samplers and other gear can generate a tone, but I've found lots of uses for this because it's so damned simple. I have a pretty stripped down noise rock setup and I don't really use lots of gadgets and generally stick to just my distortion pedal. This simple addition made for some SunnO style drone that was to die for.

I wouldn't recommend this pedal to anyone looking for distortion, it's tinny and unremarkable. If you think the feedback generator sounds interesting, you should give it a go.
  • Good Points: Feedback generator is incredibly simple and has tons of uses.
  • Bad Points: The distortion is pretty worthless.

  • I used these things at the end of one of my bands songs I really liked it. It produced a crazy looped feedback noise and I mixed it with delay and a phaser man it sounded dope.
  • Good Points: Works great with other pedals to produce noise.
  • Bad Points: Not a reliable source of Dist.

  • Great pedal for guitar or bass noises. Ok, it has a bad volume drop, but you can use it before another dist and go on feedback without any loss. I use this as a feedback generator and as a booster to get the big muff harsher.
  • Good Points: -nice feedback generator, the noise it creates is linear and continuous
  • Bad Points: -bad volume drop -bad kind of distortion

  • I like the feedback on this thing but the distortion is pretty sad. It's a good idea to have this early in a chain because as stated before you do lose volume when this is on. At best it adds nice texture to the overall sound.
  • Good Points: The feedback is a cool feature.
  • Bad Points: I wish it didn't drop in volume when turned on, and the distortion could be better, espescially since it's called "Super Distortion".

  • Sucky distortion, tone control useless, volume problem when chained with other effects. Feedbacker section very cool and what i bought it for.
  • Good Points: The feedbacker section sounds pretty good whatever you run thru it, vocals and drums are excellent thru this
  • Bad Points: The distrotion section is soooooo bad

  • The distortion is the same as the DS1 - bland and boring. The feedback you hold a note and press the pedal and it holds the note. However the note sounds synthy and it's tremaloed. Nothing like feedback. Get a DD3 it does the excact same thing.
  • Good Points: Interesting idea
  • Bad Points: But fails.

  • Interesting pedal in concept - slighly cheesy sounding in execution. The pedal works similar to the Boss DD-3. You send a pitch through it, then press and hold the footswitch. I would recommend the DD-3 over this pedal unless you are willing to fork over the cash for one of these puppies.
  • Good Points: This pedal has a nice, smooth, tube-like distortion. Decent battery usage.
  • Bad Points: The volume of the distortion is lower than the volume of the dry (clean) signal. Will not feedback pitches below and above a certain range. When the pitch is held it is tremoloed.
