This pedal kicks ass for noise. Another one of those only useful for noise DOD pedals that was discontinued. The most unbelieveable rumbling lows are possible, ala early Dan Menche.The "Meat" controls the amount of sub-harmonic signal vs. dry signal, the "Rump" controls a 30Hz boost, "Flank" controls a 60Hz boost, and "Lbs." controls the output. The Meatbox pedal will shake the paintings off the walls because it creates sub-harmonic tones.

Really useful, versatile box for thick textures and for adding extreme crunch and breakup to your sound. Quite odd when you first get hold of one; resist the urge to crank everything up as the useful settings on these are mainly between the extreme settings.
Good Points: Versatile, useful, massive amounts of bass can be dialled in with these. Has dry and effected signal outputs so good for routing or loops.
Bad Points: Usually end up going for silly collectors prices these days.

another one of DOD's "noise only" pedals (though i do know a bass player that uses one) ... great for fattening up any signal. i use mine primarily behind a synth (microkorg); it unleashes so much tone and power that you never knew you had. it's not quite an octave pedal, but it will add an extremely low or subharmonic tone below your sound source, depending on how you set the knobs. the thing is a beast. apparently it's capable of destroying speakers when set at it's lowest... i've yet to play through a PA loud enough to make this happen, though i'm not opposed to trying.
Good Points: - cool paint job (seems that all the old DOD's had this)

- GREAT for fattening up any tone

- built like a tank

Meaty meat meat.
Good Points: Holy shit, those are some low low rumbling lows. Just nasty. Very good for sudden low dynamics. Sexy paint job.
Bad Points: If the incoming signal is too high, it won't make any sound. At all. So, the answer to that is simply a y cable in both holes. Great for adding depth to your floop or chain.

Get it! What else can I say? This pedal has found its place in my setup and it will stay there for good. Low, crushing, stoned sound. Not only it is perfect for harsh noise wall, it will also turn loops into heavy pumps which will make the audience jump in trance. A total must-have.

man i never knew what i was missing. this pedal is everything its hyped up to be. especially good with a filter before and distortion after. man the rumbles and walls can tear down buildings. worth getting even if you aren't into deep bass. the knobs are a bit misleading but once you start messing with it a bit you get the picture.
Good Points: lots of sub bass. will blow out speakers. massive damage. blend is excellent.
Bad Points: knobs aren't where you'd think they would be. will blow out speakers.

Do you need to boost your signal at 30 and 60hz? Do you have an amp/pa setup where boosting these signals will make much of a difference? If so, this is obviously your boy, but if not it still has some uses -- it'll freak out your octave pedals, it'll heavy up a loop in good ways, but generally I'd say this is a pedal to get when you know you need it instead of a pedal to randomly tweak, considering how much these pedals can sell for. But then again, you'll never have a problem selling it if you don't like it...

A great bass enhancer/sub harmonic generator,..which with a proper set-up can easily make your floors vibrate and the walls shake with convulsive intensity. In a loop,it has managed to make my multi-effects more conveniently usable. It has the tendency to make signals muddy and uncontrollable;if not tweaked right.I usually leave mine in a fixed setting,and the tweaking done in the more stable controllers. In its more ideal position in the chain,it could make your other effects sounds roundier and heavier in the lower frequencies;..thus the name suggests.. A great effects to emphasize the lower end of the spectrum more so than the highs..which will make it a prime sound-shaping device in any noisician's arsenal. Like another legendary noisebox,.it can't do everything..but you definitely know when it's not there.
Good Points: -strong presence in the mix -when placed right;enhances other effects -good build
Bad Points: -rather rare -maybe not versatile enough -limited use on its own

I haven't gotten to use this much, but I have noticed it, as has been said again & again, isn't for high pitched stuff. Being that I like my noise piercing and sharp, this wasn't probably the most necessary purchase for me. Also, I've made what I consider more interesting deep sounds by chaining overdrives & distortions in such a way so that the high ends of the original signals get cut off just right in sequence to each other for some wierd heavy timbres. The bass on this, when your can hear it (all the way up it's basically inaudible with most everything I've fed it), sounds too natural and not alien enough for my tastes, like a car wreck in the distance. I hear you can get some funny synth sounds out of this, both from other reviews here and its booklet, I'll have to try that out.
Good Points: Makes things shake.
Bad Points: Kills volume in the high end. In some regards might as well just have a subwoofer.

I thought I should add that if you connect the input to the output and then run this pedal to yr amp/recording device thru the DRY OUT, it gives a nice farty-synth type effect if it is turned up hi enough.
Good Points: Pretty hardy I think.
Bad Points: Almost impossible to find an adaptor for it in my part of the globe.

This pedal does one thing, and does it extremely well: adds subharmonic bassy frequencies based on whatever you feed into it. The controls tweak the amount and type of these subharmonics that are present, and precise use of ALL the knobs can give you some really interesting ways to shape your sound. The Meat knob controls the mix between the subharmonics and your original signal; when turned all the way right it wipes out the signal entirely and all you hear is deep, pulsating bass. You can get really interesting effects by turning this knob just slightly left of this point to let some signal slowly leak through. The Rump and Flank knobs control different bass frequencies; if you're using this pedal with somewhat "normal" settings these 2 knobs can add quite a bit of depth and presence when set at 2 or 3 o'clock. Finally of course just a volume control. Basically this pedal turns any signal (as long as its not ALL high frequencies to begin with) into a pounding, heavy, powerful slam. With the settings close to maxed out and good speakers, this thing can be physically affecting, especially if you're feeding it a somewhat bassy signal to begin with. But it's also capable of doing more subtle effects and acting as a general bass enhancer if placed on moderate settings at the end of your loops.
Good Points: GREAT sound. Varied applications. Its sound really changes based on what you feed in.
Bad Points: Not terribly loud, needs a "hot" signal. No good for hi-freq sounds but that's not really a fault -- only get it if you want that thick, bassy sound.

This thing gives the most insane lowend to any signal put into it. Sometimes it seems a bit too much if your listening to the output via crappy speakers or something of the sort. Just plain useful for noizu.
Good Points: Stock DOD size.. kewl MEAT paint job.
Bad Points: Not the best pedal to use in any setup/situation.

I managed to find one of these in NOS condition recently (well ... "new old B-stock", really). I have achieved somewhat interesting results with a standard-tuned electric guitar signal and in a guitar- triggered feedback loop.
Good Points: Fairly flexible additive and subtractive sound shaping possibilities in the lower end of the EQ spectrum. Provides an underlying bassy texture and organic warmth in a feedback loop and interacts well with other pedals if placed first.
Bad Points: Can "fart out" a feedback loop signal with ease (even with 15" speakers). Volume loss with the most radical/interesting settings (which can be countered with post distortion/boosting). The subharmonic synthesizer only tracks the bottom four strings of a standard-tuned electric guitar well. Crappy battery cover (that had to be inserted backwards to stay on the d@mn thing).

guess I don't really need to review this since it's already got 10 reviews, but theres a good reason for that. It is excellent for noise. It can add an almost unbelivable amount of low end churn to a signal. Well into the speaker blowing range. It can also act very effectively as a filter in a chain, helping turn an otherwise screechy boring sound into a morphing organic blob of sound. When fed a sufficently hot signal, all the controls have interesting effects on the output. Using it in a feedback loop works very well, since the controls let you control the loop very effectively.
Good Points: insane amounts of low end, can be very loud, kind of weird and unpredicablte in an organic sort of way, good responce from knob tweaking
Bad Points: getting hard to find, needs a pretty loud signal to be most useful (and also, a signal with some amount of low end in it)

so it does pretty much all that the people below say it does, it hits some interesting frequencies and what not, but then again i really didnt feel it was all that, and even those frequencies were not very dynamic. not a bad pedal, but it has nothing over a death metal and a super american metal combo. not one to pass up if you find it cheap though, but deffinately not one to shit ones pants over...
Good Points: strong dod build... some interesting characteristics...

This pedal kicks major RUMP!!!! Sick, unearthly sub-freq are yours with a turn of the knob. It had overdriven a small amp I was using, so I can't IMAGINE the damage this could inflict using a larger cabinet. Makes any effect you link with it truly unholy! Cranking the MEAT knob up gives a kind of 'synth' sound to it. Believe the other post-ers! This is a MUST HAVE for noise!!!!!!
Good Points: -sturdy DOD construction -MEAT matches the dry level with the sub-harmonic level -RUMP controls the boost/cut of the sub-harmonic eq (35Hz) -FLANK controls the boost/cut of the low eq (60Hz) -LBS controls overall output

You need to watch the volume with this one, the sub-harmonic tones this thing will generate will blow your speakers or cause your mixer to shut itself off if you're not careful hahaha. I love this thing. If you feed the wet out into the input of itself and then send the out of the dry to the next pedal, you got yourself some serious madness.
Good Points: FAT and LOUD. The control of the amount of the Hz.
Bad Points: The AC power is a funky little 1/8" thing. Not that big of a deal.

The most bassy, sludge laden bass pedal ever. I tend to use this for processing everything. If u like noise and want to make it stomach shakinly bassy then this is for you
Good Points: Simple to use, great sound will turn (almost) every distortion box into a beast.
Bad Points: Its DOD, every one cusses DOD for crappy production. I have 5 DOD and none have broken. If used as a boost in yr pedal chain sometimes is too quiet, but for everything else this is the bomb

LOW LOW LOW - sometimes inaudible. This thing generates some of the lowist sub-harmonic frequency's I have ever heard (I wonder if bill laswell has one of these puppy's???) Sounds great before and after the buzz box. With this the buzz box, and the death metal - you have the unholy trilogy.

Read what the others say, and reread again. If somehow you managed this whole time by not having one of these, I can't understand how. This pedal is absolutely amazing! You can definately get nice low rumbling sounds, also an added bonus of having a dry output so you can layer both signals together.
Good Points: This pedal is great, it's a must in anyone's noise "arsenal." If you dont have one, you MUST get one. PERIOD.
Bad Points: Took about 10 minutes to understand how the pedal interacts with the signal, but other than that, nothing at all.

the meatbox is a bucket of bassy madness shoveled into a cute pedal-shaped package. previous reviewers are dead on, put it in a loop and don't crank it to the max. especially the mix, but play around with the settings. really adds meat to a sound, and bumping it on/off in a loop makes for a rapid change in sound. one of my favorite pedals for any purpose. just a dirty pedal, and it looks like meat. that's reason enough!
Good Points: dirty dirty dirty dirty dirty.
Bad Points: some say muddy, i say meaty.

Any hype you've heard about this pedal is true -- this is damn near the 'ultimate noise pedal.' I doubted it myself until I spent some time finding the correct use for my needs, and then was amazed. This will add a lot of texture and depth to your if you put it at the end of a chain. If you put it in a self-oscillating loop, it can do some amazing things, depending on what order you put it in and what else is in the loop. If you can find one, it's well worth the - you will pay for it.
Good Points: Adds brutally low end rumble to your sound, and can do some really weird rhythmic, low-end noise when pushed in the right direction.
Bad Points: Can sound a little muddy.

Discontinued along w/ the Buzz Box and almost as impossible to find. Pretty much any instrument plugged into this thing sounds like total shit, I've found the best use for it in a line feedback loop w/ a pretty even division on the mix control and various settings for the "rump" and "flank" knobs. Makes low, sputtering farty noises when fed higher frequencies, which adds alot of character to what otherwise might be an annoying high-pitched squeal. Very good at fattening up your sound, just remember to keep the mix around 50/50. It functions best when you find the most useful control settings for your particular sound and then leave it alone, only turning it off and on when needed. The sound is much better than other octave pedals I've tried which can create phony synth style noises when you don't want them.
Good Points: see above
Bad Points: sounds muddy if too much of the effect is mixed in
