  • I own the black Russian reissue shown in the picture here. It was forty-seven USD including S&H, and it came with the original box and warranty card. Another "classic" EH effect! See Good/Bad points for details.
  • Good Points: Great, thick, and "swooshy" phase. It can go quite fast and the "color" switch adds a nice second dimension to the effect. (Also, the switch is so satisfying to flip... It's seriously this gigantic industrial switching mechanism that SNAPS every time you flip it...) Can have a nice effect in a FB loop depending on where you place it.
  • Bad Points: Unnecessarily big case (though I quite like the look). Questionable build quality... For the most part, they are solid, but the pots tend to come loose based on my experience with the Russ. reissue BMP. There's is a noticeable volume drop which can be annoying. I kind of wish there were a mix knob... It took me forever to find a bargain for one on eBay since they are so popular and collector scum are everywhere!

  • I have the green Sovtek version. Amazing tone and "wah phase." Fabulous sounds out of this beast. Big, huge and radical.
  • Good Points: Great tone, heavy duty construction, simple.
  • Bad Points: Big and bulky.

  • I like this one big time. I find it more useful out of the feedback loop than in. I really like what it does to my poly800, great for dub sounds.
  • Good Points: sweeeeeet tone.
  • Bad Points: huge.

  • I love Electro-harmonix pedals for one particular reason: They're f**king huge. That aside, this thing is cool. I have the reissued one that just came out recently, which is nearly identical to the Russian Small Stone. This thing has a very reliable sound; i.e. it doesn't suck volume, it's very controllable, and easy to navigate. It's only got one knob, fer chrissakes! I usually have the Color knob on more often than not, because the modulations it creates are wonderful for what I do. Run a nasty distorted oscillator tone thru this, tweak the rate knob all the way up and blam! you've got some serious outer space nonsense on your hands.
  • Good Points: Easy to use and master...unlike the Infinitphase Fun to tweak around Very heavy, stong modulations Color setting and normal setting are radically different Bigger and sturdier than Roseanne Barr
  • Bad Points: The whole size thing might be a problem if you're a real organized dude with lots of compact DOD/Digitech/Boss pedals As Ian said below, the battery mount is a bit of a problem...even on my reissue model Can't control any parameters besides rate

  • I received this pedal as a DOA deal when I bought a Behringer tube mic pre-amp from a guy. It is the older, green tank monster. I cleaned some contacts and resoldered a couple of rusted connections, (from being stored in a damp garage!), and now it works great. I love the simplicity of this pedal and the ability to take it from smoothe and shimmering to over the top spaceship-launching-weirdness, at the flip of a switch. That is what the other phaser pedals are missing. They are either on at the initial settings or off. No in between.
  • Good Points: Good points are the overall sound quality and the "fat-boy" switch that turns it from lean to Uberphaser.
  • Bad Points: The only bad points I can see are the size,(mine looks like a small Russian tank), and the loss of volume when you engage the pedal. Someone on another site said you could eliminate this by "disableing" the LED light. I'll get back to you when I figure out how to do that.

  • nice phaser with transparent to extreme settings. lowest speed is great for a bit of color while high speed gets into leslieland. switchable between phase and a higher resonance-type phase which is more "phasey" and can get a little cheesy.
  • Good Points: great sound. nice range of phase.
  • Bad Points: big. switched phase can sound a bit corny. mine pops when i stomp on it.

  • this is a pretty simple phaser, but it's reliable and sounds really nice. the lower rates are great for doing drone/ambient sounds and the faster rates make things sound like they're being played through a leslie speaker gone beserk. there's a lot of strange sounds that you can make come out of this pedal. i did amp/instrument feedback with this and wah for a while, and the smallstone was always reliable. it's broken a few times, but since it's a simple pedal it's always been easy to fix- i'm sure you can fix any problems with it if you know about electronics.
  • Good Points: *it's a big metal box, but it's light, so it's extremely heavy-duty *it sounds a lot better than most newer phasers *great spectrum of sounds
  • Bad Points: *the battery is supposed to be held by one of those little metal prong things- it's a pain in the ass. it's a little thing, but it's really the only problem i have with this thing

  • I'm new to pedal-noise and this is the first pedal I bought. Not the best to start off with as it's just a phaser. Good for the slow waving effect and the fast rotor effect...
  • Good Points: phaser

  • I can't believe I have never owned one of these before... Its freaking great!.. The best bang for your buck phaser out there... Great range of tones are avalible, from slow psyc swirls to under watter gurgles... Adds great sense of movemet to the sound... Sounds great on sustaind sounds, like sine waves...
  • Good Points: Good Cheep Versitle (for a 1 knob 1 switch deal)
  • Bad Points: Big not always the best construction

  • I start by saying my one is the early green sovtek one. This is the greatest phaser I have!! It sounds tremendous on every setting. I have compared this to phase 90 + phase 100, Boss Ph2+3 Dod, roctek and this kills every one dead!
  • Good Points: Sounds F##KING amazing!!!! Cheap
  • Bad Points: Maybe too big??? Keep in mind that mine (the russian made one) is currently out of action. It has broken countless times and I have spent almost the buying price fixing it. I will buy an american one asap

  • delicious. great pedal and can get some nice laser/helicopter sounds, and the best phasing ive seen, nice and thick or dry and thin. ive had mine a few months (Russian-made as pictured) and it has yet to break. the signal was a little weak when i placed it after an EQ pedal. but i switched the order (to how it should have been originally, EQ last) and it sounds fine now. people say that these pedals arent durable, but i think as long as you dont literally STOMP on it itll be fine. However, i am weary that it may break down, it doesnt seem all that tough. but sounds great. i love the color switch. it makes it sound like the amp is underwater (sorta like Incubus on "the Warmth"). especially with delay and reverb. all-around great pedal, minus the russian-made-ness.
  • Good Points: Thick warm lush... etc. rate knob is very versatile, super-slow to machine-gun. sounds amazing. Cheap as crap for what she does.
  • Bad Points: maybe not too durable, lets hope she lasts.

  • Yes - it's the phase shift I was after. No - i should have got a US one. for two beautiful months i had no problems with this, but suddenly the output has been getting lower and lower. Don't get me wrong - the small stone is an awesome pedal - better in my opinion than the Phase 90, and very reasonably priced for what it is, but whatever you do, don't get the Sovtek
  • Good Points: The phasing is as good as you can buy under £100
  • Bad Points: low output
