Maxon Auto Filter AF9

Maxon Auto Filter AF9

The AF9 Auto Filter takes the most desirable auto-wah and swept filter effects and offers them up in a compact, user-friendly package. Opto-coupler circuitry produces the shimmering, watery filtering of legendary vintage units. Threshold and Peak sliders control the degree of effect; while Range and Drive switches determine range and direction of the filter sweep. Three selectable filter types (Low Pass, Band Pass, and Hi Pass) and a frequency range of 100 Hz - 4 kHz allow the AF9 to function with virtually any instrument or input signal.

  • if you're wanting to make noise with this thing you must take into account that it requires you to alter the dynamics of your noise signal. the filter can get some very interesting tones going and has a cool little wobblling sound at some frequencies. it will sound very different depending on which side of a distortion you have it. I think that if ou want to keep your levels even, stick a compressor at the end of your chain otherwise this thing can go waaaaay louder than you intend it to be.
  • Good Points: nice substitute for the mutron 3 and fairly common, hence cheap on the 2nd hand market.
  • Bad Points: I wish there was an attack and decay control on this pedal for more variety in sweeps.
