Maxon Distortion Effector DS-F1

Maxon Distortion Effector DS-F1

The Maxon DS-F1 is a distortion pedal designed for electric guitar. Its controls include Drive, Tone, and Level. The Drive knob adjusts the amount of gain and distortion, increasing harmonic saturation and sustain as it is turned up. The Tone control shapes the high-frequency content, allowing the user to brighten or darken the distorted signal. The Level knob sets the overall output volume of the pedal. The DS-F1 uses a standard 9V DC power supply and features a true bypass switching system to preserve the guitar's clean signal when the effect is disengaged.

  • An excellent sounding distortion pedal that includes a 3 band equalizer. By playing with the EQ settings, it's possible to get a wide range of distorted sounds. The Fireblade series of pedals are billed as Maxon's "affordable" line of effect pedals but unlike other cheapy pedals (i.e. Arion, RockTek) this pedal does, in fact, provide some great distortion for your money.
  • Good Points: The three band EQ.
  • Bad Points: Cheap plastic case. (does it matter if your not stepping on it?!) Though I've had it since 1994 and it's still in great condition. The knobs are close together and hard to twist in a live situation.
