  • I wish I still had this! A lot of the effects were highly experimental, stuff most practical bassists would never use, but I would love to have this again just to put drums, synths, tapes, everything through it. At the time in my life that I had this I only had a bass guitar, and with one of the effects I was able to make it sound like a telephone. Hahaha! The way I remember it, it was incredible, but it was also many years ago.
  • Good Points: It's really weird, very experimental for a Zoom, lots of wacky features you may appreciate and overall a pretty low-power usage.
  • Bad Points: Many of the effects are pointless, might be a bit too much money for the few uses it has, doubt it's anywhere near as useful for a bassist than it would be for an experimental electronic / noise musician and the sampler sucks (as could probably have been ascertained from just looking at the thing).

  • I had this pedal for about 3 months. I loved all the effects, I remember one of my gigs where I just played with the expression pedal for 15 minutes. 60 preset effects!!! I think that is almost too many! Worked great and was a good price.
  • Good Points: Expression pedal and a lot of effects!
  • Bad Points: Effects were sometimes too digital for my liking.

  • Delay, reverb, echo, distortion, phase, flanger, chorus and the rest of usual effects you may expect are here together with a bunch of other, 'different' ones. And of course you can play with all their parameters while programming or in real time with the knobs. Besides it, the item includes some cool and useful, unexpected options such as a simple drum machine or a 6-second sampler. Maybe it sounds too digital, but well, I guess it won't be a surprise for anyone. Otherwise, if you can purchase it at a reasonable price, you'll probably find something for you between the tons of featured options.
  • Good Points: Tons of options and effects, classic and not so classic, in a single unit; and some unexpected plus...
  • Bad Points: If you're used to classic pedals, programming will be a pain in the ass, not to mention that you'll surely find sounds too much digital.

  • i had the 2 version of this...it was deffinately a cool pedal with alot of sounds. though it was kind of hard to control. it deffinately had some good stuff going for it, but im the kind of guy who hates reading manuals so i sold it. deffinately worth the bling if youre willing to program and mess around with this for awhile.
  • Good Points: decent construction that felt solid enough...
  • Bad Points: though the name of the brand seems to be filled with many bad conotations...these things arent very cheep, and theres a manual with more than 4 pages...

  • management: "Is that effect really useful to musicians?" dsp programmer: "Uh, yeah... I guess... maybe." I've got the feeling that conversation took place several times during the development of this dsp. This box has a couple of pretty odd effects in it, and they are great for generating strange noises. Examples include "t-trip", a delay that varies the delay time based an enveloper follower. There is also a step phaser, a ring modulator, a couple of weird "distortion" sounds, a synth effect, an autowah/octave combo, and a pitch shifter (and other more normal effects). It should be noted that all the effects are _very_ digital. Used in a feedback line loop, it great for generating weird noises that are mix of digital glitching and "normal" processing. There are three knobs that can be used to do realtime tweaking (and the pedal) which makes it easy to use in a tabletop enviroment. Program changes happen quickly. This makes it useable as a normal, if large stomp box. Compared to other similar units from korg, dod, or digitech, the bfx-708 is the most useful for noise. The weird effects and real time control (and low price) make it very useful.
  • Good Points: Some very odd dsp effects not seen in most units, three realtime knobs, cheap price
  • Bad Points: low output volume, control knobs not very programmable

  • this thing kicks fucking ass! this pedal is my main pedal next to my super shifter and digital delay pedals. first, its has a built-in 6 sec. sampler and a small drum machine. but the drum machine is not programable. but it goes up to 250 bpm and if you twist the style knob you can get a cool blurry sound. the pedal has 5 analog-style knobs for realtime adjustment(good for the ring modulator and pitch shifter), has an expression pedal for that same thing. it also works as a volume pedal and wah pedal. you can create new effects or modify the presets. has distortion, delay, flange, chorus, reverb, ring modulator, arpeggiator, and tons of only good sounds. i recorded my first album "a means to a beginning" by pcrv using just this pedal and a death metal pedal. its awesome. has amp simulator that is changed by a know. it also has a jam mode, where you can sample two sec. of sound and run it normal, in reverse or scratch, where you use the pedal to mix up the sound. a must have.
