  • i used to have this pedal years ago. sold it, then got it again recently in a trade. it's a great pedal, it can do high raspy stuff really really well, and even with the tone knob all the way down and the low knob all the way up it sounds pretty good. however, the range of tones you can get on this thing is pretty limited. i'd still say this pedal is worthwhile to grab at a cheap price or in a trade and throw it at the beginning of a chain for some grating, almost painful treble.
  • Good Points: + great fuzz + really loud and treble-y + can be found pretty cheap
  • Bad Points: - maybe not enough low end - not good in the middle or at the end of a chain - not enough variation in sound between settings
  • Price Paid: US$0.00

  • this was the first distortion pedal i ever bought. i was happy for the first few months but after moving on and trying/purchasing greater pedals, the FX66 found less and less use. when the low and tone knobs are at their max positions, the distortion is a little too fuzzy for my like. there isn't much versatility when adjusting the knobs, and there isn't any mid-range on the pedal that i'm into. it's good when combined with another pedal, like a boss ds-1, but individually, i've found the ds-1 to provide a lot more versatility and tone in terms of adjustment. given, the FX66 is still pretty fucking loud and a decent pedal. i don't regret purchasing it.

  • pretty decent fuzz/distortion. not as unruly as, say, a grunge or death metal, obviously, but still a good distortion for pretty inexpensive. gooood for contact mics, brings the grit out in a loop. its got good mids and you can pull some tinny highs out of this which i like sometimes.
  • Good Points: good distortion, adds some color to your sound. great for contact mics.
  • Bad Points: crappy name, not the most versatile pedal ever..

  • No-one seems to like this pedal much, i got mine for peanuts off ebay and i think it's a decent pedal. OK it doesnt do what it says on the tin, but it's usefull. For starters it's a decent distortion, there's decent scope with the low & tone, the fuzz setting makes it sound like a fuzz standard boosted with a hard distortion and it's loud. I put mine after my Blue Box and all hell broke loose, suits me! So, sounds of the 60's...i could'nt find them, decent distortion with a modern twist on fuzz...yes. Worth anyday.
  • Good Points: Some good sounds for the money, good for boosting other stuff...it's loud, cheap as chips, modern twist on fuzz.
  • Bad Points: Name and description misleading to me.

  • i'm still not sure if i like this thing or not. at times i can coax truly great sounds out of it, and it is load as hell, but sometimes it just comes off flat and boring. most often used moderately near the end of a chain and it sounds much nicer. the low boost is nice, of course, and the tone knob offers a little tweakage. for the price, i'd say its a decent pedal but there are obviously much better fuzz pedals out there. unfortunately, i don't have any of those so this'll have to do!
  • Good Points: low boost, fuzzy and loud as hell. oh yeah, and cheap.
  • Bad Points: sometimes comes off flat, doesn't give the required anti-punch i'm looking for.
