Ibanez Powerlead PL5

Ibanez Powerlead PL5

There are many varieties of distortion. This is it, and beware: it will add a razor-sharp edge to your noise. The PL5 is the 2nd biggest seller in the Soundtank Series (the TS5 TUBESCREAMER is No.1). the POWERLEAD is a little lighter on the bottom with more mid-to-highs.

  • Pawnshop buy....!!!! I dig this one... I don't crank the gain on my Marhall so this adds a nice crunch. I like the way it sounds when I chicken scratch and bend. Really pushes my leads and power chord AC/DC rythem...... Get one they are worth the 20/30 bucks....!!!!!
  • Good Points: inexpensive and does the job
  • Bad Points: Plastic body... Not made for gigging hard.... Inputs in the rear.... Not much range
  • Price Paid: US$20.00

  • I have to agree with previous post-ers...this thing is pretty cool!! Sounds like crap with an actual guitar thru it, but linking it with some other pedals gives a nice, trebly, noisy attack to your set-up. I thought the TONE and DIST gave it a lot of character. Glad I saw this on Ebay and checked HERE for the reviews before I bought it!!!
  • Good Points: - fairly inexpensive - jacks are in the back - easy battery access - probably great for bending
  • Bad Points: - not necessary for your noise rig - hard to find - cheap plastic casing - knobs don't feel too sturdy
  • Price Paid: US$20.00
  • Purchased At: Ebay

  • the powerlead is indeed ahrp and trembly, i certainly found no mudd at all. i thought this was a piece of crap until i bent it all to hell. mine is now a tone generator, that generates piercing drones, that'll keep their highs no matter how many distortions you run them through. after bending i decided to make five of them, so i picked up four more. you can pick them up nice and cheap, mine cost me between and .
  • Good Points: as-is - nothing. bent - sweet bleading ears!
  • Bad Points: it's a soundtank...

  • i have to agree with the previous reviews of this thing. it is indeed sharp and trebly. its also muddy and nasty. the best pedal i have gotten for so cheap!
  • Good Points: all connectors in the back. loud and nasty. high end noise range pedal. sounds like a distorted freaked out chicken in a feedback loop. the one i have somebody drilled some christmas tree spikes into it! looks badass.
  • Bad Points: knobs are really flimsy. the case is plastic and could probably break easily.
  • Price Paid: US$25.00

  • As noted, it's trebly! Even with the (single) tone knob down it whines like (insert name here). Does produce some other nice mid-range sounds, but the squeal's always there. Doesn't feel like it'd last too long if you beat the hell out of it. Worth buying cos it's cheap. I'll have to keep experimenting with this one, previous reviewer loved it.
  • Good Points: Cheap. Fairly severe distortion.
  • Bad Points: Limited range (imho). Build quality seems a bit weak.

  • this thing is pretty good.. it sounded better in the store sounded like i had a chorus on at the same time, when i got home i was met with muddy, trebly hair distortion... i still like never heard a pedal quite like this.. it does sound like running a dod american metal(cranked) through a turbo rat... thats good i used to have both of those, but my band was starving one day so i offed them... for twenty dollars it was either this or a rogue/kramer/psk or whatever crappy clippy distortion... if anyone knows of anyways to modify it ( higher harmonic content, more bass) please let me know!!
  • Good Points: raunchy, harsh, muddy, cheap, you can make it sound like a cranked fuzz with dist. all the way down and level crankedand tone whereevr the hell you want..
  • Bad Points: probably not very high quality... too trebly
