Ibanez Thrashmetal TM5

Ibanez Thrashmetal TM5

Rough edge distortion, actually more like a heavy overdrive. The THRASHMETAL was designed to offer the sound of an overdriven, classic British stack.

  • Not bad at all, was pleasantly surprised by this. Usable, rough hi-mid distortion that plays well with other pedals. Probably a bit thin on its own but gives other pedals a good boost. Well worth picking up cheap.
  • Good Points: Plays well with others, cheap, useful.
  • Bad Points: I can live with the plastic case, it seems sturdy-ish, but the knobs are terrible. They look like an accident waiting to happen. Flimsy, too close together and too small.

  • None of the Ibanez Soundtank pedals are stand alone giants, but out of the litter of distortions available for that series, this is my favorite. Heavy in the mids and dry sounding to boot. When coupled with another distortion it can really coax the high end crackle out. Overall this series is cheap, housed in plastic cases, with dodgy switches. I run it with the tone knob around 12:00 If it's cheap enough though, it's not a bad accessory to own.
  • Good Points: cheap on the wallet.
  • Bad Points: plastic, dodgy switches.

  • Three knobs which regulate gain, tone and drive. The tone-knob really works well and can add some harshness. Overall sound is a little high-mid-boost. Can add a lot of pressure to your sound when it works with another distortion-unit.
  • Good Points: Seems to be very cheap. Can add harshness. Solid construction.
  • Bad Points: Don't pick this as your exclusive distortion.

  • This is a good pedal for harshnoise but you'll need to chain it with a distortion pedal for a full blast effect. It's good if you want more control over distorted sound textures, can produce mid range rumbling noise.
  • Good Points: Cheap, usefull for noise, almost anyone can purchase one (I've paid 15$!)!
  • Bad Points: not really good if you don't have a distortion pedal or if its your first pedal. cheap plastic case.
