  • Outstanding tone shaping tool. If Tech21 offered nastier drive levels then you can your other od/dist/fuzz pedals at home.
  • Good Points: Very versatile yet very easy to use.
  • Bad Points: No clean setting. Drive is always on.

  • It does what it says, and well, at a good price. Great amp models, and a powerful EQ section. The hot-wired amp function and the off-axis micing function can catch some wild harmonics, if you fight with it right. It can't give you a clean boost, however, so don't try to make it do that.
  • Good Points: Accurate modeling. Powerful EQ
  • Bad Points: No clean boost options (although I suppose it doesn't really promise to do that or anything, but still, you'd think they could put it there without too much trouble).

  • Designed as a guitar amplifier simulator. It features analogue circuitry with 3 mic modes (ambient, centre cone, speaker edge), three drive modes (clean, high gain, hot rodded), and 3 amp modes (fender, marshall, mesa boogie). Also drive, one and level knobs. I've heard people pump drum machines and other gear into these puppies as well.
  • Good Points: As far as an amp sim goes I think it is pretty good. You can also get non-traditional tones out of it. The distortion is very responsive to the signal and doesn't 'colour' the sound. ie you can still hear the character of the original signal.
  • Bad Points: Changing settings (switches) can yield pops, and can be unwieldly at times. Background hiss (though not that bad). Sustaining tones kind of 'choke' as they die out.
