Zvex Ooh Wah

Zvex Ooh Wah

THE OOH-WAH does everything that the Seek-Wah does and more. It has a random/seek stomp switch that lets you jump between the Seek-Wah sound and this new random mode, which sounds a little like random sample-and-hold driving a bandpass filter.

  • This is a seriously powerful pedal. Clear and simple to use. Each knob (which all work backwards, btw) has a light below it which lights with the intensity of the effect in that step. On full speed, it scrambles your sound unintelligibly. It's lovely. Especially on random.
  • Good Points: Step selction switch. Random mode. Pretty.
  • Bad Points: Only runs on batteries, unless you get the nifty power supply backing.

  • How can I explain this. Imagine 8 wah pedals, sequenced together, and each having their own filter setting. With the ability to change the speed of the sequence, also the number of steps (4, 6, or 8) AND the option to make it random where it jumps to anyone one of of the filters randomly. The ooh wah also has an amazing range of speed too, bring the pedal down to just 4 steps, set the speed at it's highest, adjust the 4 filter leds that you see light up and you have a nice little tremelo effect. Great for pedalnoise when you want to add a little rhythm to a particular section or even power electronics. Fun with vocals when fed through a distortion too.
  • Good Points: Everything about this pedal is pretty wild. The fast rate, the ability to tweak each stage, the random feature is a great addition.
  • Bad Points: A bit pricey for my tastes but it paid for itself now that I know how to build one.
